((I should invest in an sketch book.  And not do two minute sketches.  …And not draw over previously drawn pages.  uwu  Sob.))

Reblogging here just because.  Sob.  This is what happens to my art when I rush.  -Rolls away-

Anonyme sent: Hi Cheru! :3 I was wondering, you have such great art! Any tips or art process?

Oh woah! ;3;  Never thought I would get this!  fkadskk thank you so much!  And ummm, sure!  It’s going to be a long post so sorry! ;o;  Here’s how do it.  But by no means does it force you to follow these guidelines.  Get ideas from this, don’t feel obligated to follow these word by word!

  1. Overall I have two sketch layers to start with.  In the beginning, I set time for myself to sketch a concept and get a general gist of what I want.  The point of this is not to focus so much on the details from the very beginning but instead see the larger picture, see how it will all pull together.  Anatomy is not the most important part!  Get the concept down!  I limit myself to ten minutes.  Why?  Because spending too much time on this stage tends to distract me.  I start becoming too nit picky and I ruin my whole concept through constant erasing.
  2. Next I sketch over it, refine the details, try making more sense of just what the hell I placed on that paper/canvas.  This is when you start pulling in what you know such as anatomy, lighting, etc.  This is your refinement phase (or at least mine’s).  Please remember that anatomy is not the most important part of all of this unless you want it to be.  It’s always nice to have anatomy knowledge but at the same time, it is your art and through wandering off the standard, you may stumble upon a ‘mistake’ that you want to incorporate into your drawings.
  3. What I find helps create aspects in a style is actually mistakes.  Don’t always immediately erase the mistakes that you see.  In fact, take some time to pull away from your drawing, occupy your mind with something else and then look back at it. You might actually end up liking this ‘mistake’ more than you think and incorporate it into your art.  I’ve done this so many times so try this if you want!
  4. I adore sketching in a colour that inspires me and that’s not black.  Black makes it hard for me to see the difference between a sketch, line, or different sketch layers.  Also it’s fun to play with different colours and deviate away from the standard black!  I adore sketching in these colours: I love playing with the opacity also during drawing because a certain opacity is usually most comfortable for me to draw in.  You’ll always find me at around 60% opacity for sketching and most drawing!
  5. Play around with your colours!  I see a tendency for most people to simply pull on the colour scale the darkness scale and so they don’t play around with different colours.  Instead they stay in one colour scale.  You might find that with playing with different colours, you can expand yourself!  Remember that your body takes in colour, it reflects it and by golly, it’s interesting!  Anyways, I looked in some of my pictures for colours that I’ve chosen, which will be on the left side of the image and then on the right is what I see some people having a tendency to do: Is it bad to do the right?  Of course not!  It’s your own art style but I’m just saying that you should have fun with your colours.  Match some colours that might be different, go around the colour spectrum a bit!  That’s a fun in art!  You’re completely in control.
  6. Practise, practise, practise and don’t let anyone dictate your art!  Just keep on trying!  Possibly focus on different aspects each time you draw!  Maybe one day, focus on your anatomy, the next drawing, focus on your colours, the next light play!  Have fun!  Focus on different things!  Expand!

I’m so sorry this is long. ;w; But if you guys want to ask anything like this, then please shoot. <3

Sorry it’s so messy!  ;;; And sorry violetrosepolice!  Your art is the cutest and I did no justice.  You guys should check her out!  Honestly!  She has the cutest art ever!
