….lawd.
by the way for those concerned
the head honcho at yahoo has stated (in her own roundabout, family-friendly way) that the nsfw content on tumblr isn’t a problem and in fact tumblr’s unique niche amongst young adults is credible for its success
they’re keeping the same team
david karp is still running shit
it is still a website for mature individuals
the “family friendly” tweet is fake
it’s chill alright
This. This will only get maybe 50 notes max because people can’t get indignantly outraged over it, but Yahoo radically changing Tumblr was never an option. Yahoo has been suffering for years because they can’t seem to attract the age group that tumblr does, that ~key~ 18-25 demographic that this site is well known for. Yahoo didn’t spring $1 billion for a company that only made 1% of that in revenue last year just to alienate its entire userbase by radically modifying the site. Yes, there may be some Terms of Service changes. It’s possible that they will integrate Yahoo IDs*.
If you’re still angry over this, think of this way: yeah, it could possibly go terribly wrong. Yahoo could ruin everything. But at that point, if you leave Tumblr, you’re no worse off than you would have been. Tumblr wasn’t going to last the year the way it was going. Tumblr was probably going to shut down within a year or two.
So now, instead of being a lost cause entirely, there’s a chance that Yahoo could do something great with it and it will continue to survive. Any changes that come from Yahoo’s acquisition of tumblr are likely to be slow burning, from a lot of what their CEO has been saying. It’s not going to be overnight, probably not even in six months. Maybe in a year. Maybe two.
* protip: You don’t need a Yahoo email address to use Yahoo sites, except for… well. Yahoo itself. Which is kind of a no-brainer. So I doubt that they are going to force all tumblr users to get a Yahoo email.
And on a personal note
THIS
IS
NOT
FUCKING
OKAY.
DO NOT FUCKING COMPARE YAHOO BUYING TUMBLR TO SOMETHING THAT KILLED MILLIONS.
HOW FUCKING DARE YOU ALL.
YOU ALL MAKE ME SICK.
